Media Decoded

During the 2024-2025 school year students involved with

Fierce Mustang Media will be involved in a community-wide media and information literacy campaign funded with an

Impact Grant from the California Teachers Association

Institute for Teaching.

Students will research, report, and create content related to how San Joaquin County residents can better understand the media messages they see every day.

As part of the work, students involved in the project will produce the following media literacy content: media literacy guide, media literacy workbook, one-page media careers handout, one-page media careers handout, and one-page recommended media equipment handout.

 

In the Spring 2025 semester, Media Literacy Ambassadors will be dispatched to K12 classrooms and local events to share their learnings and knowledge with the community.

Resources

In the Fall 2024 semester, students involved in Equity Honors Projects worked on all the media deliverables related to this project, which includes: a media literacy pocket guide, a one-sheet explainer, one-page flyers on media careers, media pathways, and media equipment,

a media literacy slide desk, and a pledge card.

​

Faculty worked on curriculum related to using these deliverables in the classroom.

Deliverables can be downloaded and printed for personal use.

Resources by Age Group

Over the 2024-2025 school year, students serving as Media Literacy Researchers and Media Literacy Ambassadors have worked with faculty to develop curriculum for students Kindergarten through Adult age related to media literacy. These links connect offsite to a Google Drive with resources for download.

Media literacy campaign tackles the challenge of determining what’s true online

Andrea Rivera remembers when a friend told her that the state of California was planning to become its own country.

Media Decoded project produces free materials for public use

In the 2024-2025 school year, students involved in the Media Decoded project produced more than 10 free, public creatives to help learn and explore media and information literacy.​

 

Those materials are now available for download and reuse.​
